Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of seeing more than 30 leaders thrive in new ways through Relationology Masterminds.
Some people set goals directly related to their business or enterprise while others chose something personal. Either way, it has been an honour to see people achieve a 91% success rate on their goals in just 100 days. Not only that, but they have discovered the beginnings of authentic and effective relationships with other Mastermind members.
One of those who chose a personal goal is Daniel de Groot. Originally from the Netherlands, but living in Romania for almost 30 years, Daniel decided to join a Mastermind because he was at a crossroads.
For almost 30 years, he has been in the country leading two enterprises: one reaching vulnerable children to ensure they receive medical help, and another helping the poorest through learning skills in woodwork and joinery.
I’ll let him explain more about how Mastermind has created real transformation for him.
Why did you decide to join a Mastermind, Daniel?
I was invited to take part in a Mastermind by someone in my network who had recently completed the programme. He’d been thinking about who it might suit and thought of me. When he told me about the Relationology Mastermind I immediately thought it could be the right thing at the right time for me.
What did you think joining people in a Zoom room for the first time?
Personally, I was quite comfortable doing that. I knew it would give the programme an extra edge because I would meet new people from new countries and build relationships that would extend my network. As this is something I love to do, the Mastermind resonated with me. Learning so much from new people was a bonus.
The Mastermind’s focus is in defining a goal and working over 100 days to achieve it. What was your goal?
I was in a period of life when I was deciding what I wanted to do next. It felt like a decisive moment in my life. My goal was simple: In 100 days I would work out what I wanted to do next year!
What challenges did you face along the way?
The biggest challenge for me was internal and finding out who I am. I wanted to work out whether it was OK for me to continue the way I am. I wanted to know whether I was investing in the right people and the right things. Speaking about my inner thoughts and listening to advice from others really helped me.
How did you find the hot seat part of Mastermind?
It was great to get feedback from others. I asked the others in the group what people thought about my ideas. One of the participants asked me about my personal failures but also my life values. I had never thought of that before, and I started to search for it.
What were the biggest obstacles you faced?
For me, it was figuring out why I am really here in Romania. I need to find a balance of starting new things but not leaving out the things started already.
You decided to do something quite new after the Mastermind. What is that?
The biggest question I had was: What is giving me energy? I want to do something that I am good at. It is a new project but involves a lot of relationships I already have. I am passionate about business as a mission to invest in profit, people and the planet. So, I was chatting with a friend a few weeks ago who builds websites. And he said, “I want to start a company building websites, but I don’t want to do it alone.”
I thought, “I’m in!” I reacted fast, but I am passionate about it. We decided to start an online marketing and communications business called The Boost Company! That is what came out of my experience with Relationology Mastermind. At the start, I had no idea where it was going to lead. I am so excited for the next chapter that wouldn’t have happened without Relationology.
It’s a wonderful privilege to observe someone like Daniel at the very start of a new business. This year, Relationology Masterminds have helped many people launch new enterprises or adapt current ones, and I’m thrilled by what the future holds for them.
If you are at a crossroads like Daniel, there is still time to join the January’s Mastermind, which I will be coaching from the UK. Or, you can join Relationology partner, Richard, who is coaching a new Mastermind from Australia, which starts in February. For more details visit this page on the website today.
